Publisher's Synopsis
After a weepy breakup, Natalie flees from London to Pescia, a picturesque town in Tuscany. Still, Natalie has some sense of purpose, or at least pretence: researching a 17th century nun called Benedetta (if the tales are to be believed, a charismatic, masochistic, lesbian) in a last-ditch attempt to finish her PhD. When Natalie eventually drags herself away from the town's bars and out of bed to visit the convent that Benedetta once called home, the boundaries between reality and her research blur. In search of answers about her new-found self but in denial about what those answers might hold, she must choose between the past and present, between relic and reality.
